FAQ

What's the difference between an indie film and a foreign language film?

An independent film is usually made by a single filmmaker who makes his or her own decisions about everything.

The opposite is true for foreign language films. They are usually produced by a larger production company.

They often hire actors, authors, and directors who are from other countries.

They also hire professional translators so that the dialogue sounds natural.

What is the difference of a producer and distributor?

A producer creates the movie. The movie is distributed through a distributor. Distributors, theaters and other companies, such as Netflix, can be sold directly by producers. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.

Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This can mean that different theaters may charge different prices for a movie. Distributors should be able to distribute your movie to as many theaters as possible.

Do foreign sales make Hollywood more than domestic sales?

Yes, but only slightly. 2017 foreign revenue accounted for approximately 17%. 83% of total revenue came from domestic sources.

More than half of the world’s population lives in foreign markets.

This means that people who may never have the chance to see a movie at home might still be curious about your movie.
